It’s generally a slow week of new releases following the Thanksgiving rush and this year is no exception. Never fear- The Black Keys are BACK next week!
Hot Chelle Rae “Whatever”
The pop/rock band from Nashville JUST won the American Music Award for Best New Artist.
This is the sophomore album from the group and frontman Ryan Follese describes it this way, “I’ve heard my whole life that you spend your whole life writing your first album, and the second one always sucks. Thank the Lord, I think this one is going to be the opposite.”
The catchy single “Tonight, Tonight” was certified double platinum.
Cast Recording “Follies: New Broadway Cast Recording”
This is music from the landmark 1971 musical that the New York Times says “makes you realize anew just why Follies is one of the greatest musicals ever written.”
This new production stars two-time Tony Award-winner Bernadette Peters as Sally Durant Plummer, four-time Tony Award-nominee Jan Maxwell as Phyllis Rogers Stone, two-time Tony Award-nominee Danny Burstein as Buddy Plummer, three-time Emmy Award-nominee Ron Raines as Benjamin Stone and four-time Olivier Award-nominee Elaine Paige as Carlotta Campion, under the direction of Eric Schaeffer. The cast of 41 is backed up by a 28-piece orchestra, conducted by James Moore.
Smashing Pumpkins “Siamese Dream: Deluxe Edition” and “Gish”
No, it’s not a typo. They are remastered editions of the first two albums from Billy Corgan and company.
If you are a hardcore fan, you already have these albums. If you want the bonus live performance dvd’s and cool looking postcards (don’t forget the 24 page booklet!) then you’ll probably get this under your holiday tree.
Various Artists “Songs of Anarchy: Music from Sons of Anarchy Season 1-4”
Remember Peggy Bundy? Then you’ve heard of actress Katey Sagal. You probably also know the popular FX TV show.
This is a collection of fifteen new recordings, specifically for the show, of classic tunes such as “What A Wonderful World”, “Forever Young” and “John The Revelator”.
The album kicks off with the Emmy nominated and ASCAP award winning series theme song “This Life” written by singer-songwriter Curtis Stigers, Velvet Revolver guitarist Dave Kushner, producer Bob Thiele and show creator Kurt Sutter, performed by Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers.
Sagal performs four tracks on the soundtrack including “Son Of A Preacher Man” with The Forest Rangers as well as her take on “House of the Rising Sun.”
