It’s Tuesday and that means NEW MUSIC! This week it is all about Susan Boyle (remember her?), Florence + The Machine, Miranda Lambert AND “The Biebs” Holiday album.
Susan Boyle “Someone To Watch Over Me”
This is Boyle’s third album and it reunites her with acclaimed producer Steve Mac.
This album is a collection of covers mixed with originals
One of the covers I am excited to hear is Boyle’s rendition of “Enjoy The Silence.” She also has versions of “Unchained melody” and “Mad World.” Very cool.
Since performing STUNNING songs on “Britain’s Got talent”, Boyle has gone on to sell 14 million albums worldwide. As if that wasn’t enough to convince you she is a true star, this album will.
According to Boyle, this new record has songs inspired by true life stories and inner most thoughts by people who sent letters to her.
Says Boyle, “There are certain songs that I liked that resonated with the letters that people had written and sent to me. I knew that s what my record needed to be about. They wrote about grief, love, happy and sad times, it was all deeply moving and the songs mirror the emotion and life experience.”
Florence + The Machine “Ceremonials”
After selling an impressive 4 million copies of the debut album “Lungs”, a lot of people (including myself) wondered if this was a group headed for the “sophomore jinx” with the follow up. I was hoping this would not be the case with Flo and her Machine. You will be happy to know this record really does pick up where the last one left off.
In fact, you may remember we here at BackstageOl were excited about a preview for the first track, “What The Water Gave Me.” Click here to read that article.
Florence Welch herself has said this is a continuation of the hugely popular “Lungs”, saying “It’s certainly a very different thing this time around: making an album that you know a lot of people are anticipating;..but I’ve just tried to do what I would’ve done anyway. This one is a real attempt to just make exactly the kind of music I want to hear: dramatic and really huge and kind of spooky. I want it more than anything to have an overwhelming effect on the listener: I want it to make people feel something.”
Miranda Lambert “Four The Record”
This is Lambert’s fourth release. The award winning country singer’s first three sold over a million copies apiece. In fact, her last album “Revolution” took home album of the year at both the ACM and CMA awards.
Lambert herself said she didn’t want another “Revolution” telling Billboard, telling Billboard, “I went into it without a plan. I figured that I’m not going to make ‘Revolution’ again, and I really shouldn’t. Part of being an artist is evolving and reinventing yourself, so I went into the studio with an open mind and let the songs lead the way. That’s why there’s everything on this record from rock to blues to country – all my musical influences. I listened to a lot of Jerry Jeff Walker, David Allan Coe, Willie and Waylon growing up.”
Justin Bieber “Under The Mistletoe”
This is an easy one to describe. It’s the Justin Bieber Christmas album.
Ok, so maybe there are some details I should share, but really this is just what you expect- Christmas songs as sung by the pop phenom.
“Mistletoe” was written and produced by the hit making Canadian duo known as The Messengers (Nasri and Adam Messinger). The Messengers first wrote and produced Justin’s chart-dominating hit of early 2011, “Never Say Never,” title track off his hit concert film, Never Say Never. In addition to “Mistletoe,” the Messengers wrote and produced the songs “Christmas Love” and “Home For Christmas” (featuring The Band Perry). The album was produced by Kuk Harrell.
The “Biebs” even has an (awkward) duet with Mariah Carey. Why so strange? The two share the song “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
