There is music to help you concentrate, to think, and to calm you down but music to help you sleep has never been perfected. Individuals have a specific choice of song or artist to sooth into a nights rest, but that is soon to change.
Composer, pianist, and musical tinker Max Richter has created an album that might help people go to sleep. Sleep, the new album by Richter, is said to be an eight hour album of long form, slow paced compositions. The album was created as a “personal lullaby for a frenetic world” said Richter. The inspiration for this came from today’s 21st century living in a chaotic fast paced world. When human beings are always going, its important to realize that people need to slow down.
The composer has planned to perform the full album in Berlin sometime this fall. When most concerts encourage you to engage with your artists and “rage” or “turn up”, this special performance will encourage attendees to drift off to the music. Drifting off to the slow tempo music makes sense since the show will not have seats but beds with the set beginning at midnight and ending at 8 am. Just in time for people to enjoy a great night out, while also being well rested for their hectic workday in the morning.
Max Richter has not only composed his own solo work but also created scores for popular films and TV shows. Some of those works include Jiro Dreams of Sushi, HBO’s The Leftovers, and The Lunchbox.
Sleep is set to be released September 4th, 2015 in its entirety online, while the one hour suite called from SLEEP will be released on CD and vinyl on the same day.
