Superstar Mariah Carey is planning a surprise release for her next album, according to the latest addition of Billboard which hit newsstands today.
Carey revealed she will release her new album’s title, track listing, artwork, and music all at once digitally, with a physical release expected to arrive the following week. “I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” the songstress explained. She added that she wants her fans to listen to the album “as a body of work” and experience it “as if they were listening to it with me for the first time.”
The 44-year-old singer went on to hint at the title of her 14th album, saying it is named after “a personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”
Carey has been working on the album since 2010, and has already collaborated with Rodney Jerkins, Jermaine Dupri, Trey Songz, and Hit-Boy. She hinted there’s “a special guest star that [she’s] not allowed to reveal.”
The singer shared that she doesn’t intend on retiring from her music anytime soon, contrary to comments she made on Watch What Happens Live where she implied it could be her final album. “I will always make music,” Carey told Billboard. “When I said it could be my last, that’s because tomorrow’s not promised to anyone.”
