Three years ago, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett allied to record “The Lady Is A Tramp,” the leading track on Bennett’s 2011 album Duets II. Today, the two unlikely friends have announced a longer collaborative release coming this Fall.
The upcoming release, titled Cheek to Cheek, features the two singers performing jazz standards, including duets and solos. “The collaboration has just been so wonderful,” said Gaga about recording the album. “It’s so natural singing with Tony.” Bennett, 87, agreed completely. “She sings so wonderful and she’s actually really a great jazz singer,” he added. “She improvises every time we do a song. We do it over and over and it’s different every time.”
The album features jazz musicians Mike Renzi, Gray Sargent, Harold Jones and Marshall Wood as well as pianist Tom Lanier and jazz trumpeter Brian Newman. Tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and flautist Paul Horn, who passed away earlier this month, are also featured.
Gaga and Bennett’s long-awaited jazz album Cheek to Cheek, featuring “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” “Sophisticated Lady,” “Lush Life” and other tracks, will be available worldwide on September 23. “Anything Goes,” the album’s first single, is available now on iTunes.
