Radio stations around the country slowly yanked Ke$ha’s song “Die Young” from their rotation after the Newtown tragedy.
“Die Young” placed #3 on the radio playlists on Friday, the day of the Newtown tragedy, reaching 167 million listeners nationwide that day.
The day after the tragedy airplay dropped by 3 million listeners on Saturday. It was a major sign showing that radio stations were slowly pulling the song out of their playlist rotation.
By Monday ‘Die Young’ dropped down to 148 million listeners (a 19 million drop before Friday’s shooting). The last time a song dropped out so quickly was when the Dixie Chicks were banned from country radio after insulting President Bush.
