Katy Perry Ties Record for Most #1 Pop Songs

After its sixth week of release, Katy Perry’s latest single “Roar” has secured the number one spot on the Billboard Pop Songs radio airplay chart.  The song’s climb to the top of the chart is the fastest for the 28-year-old singer since “California Girls” was released in 2010.

Now that she has accomplished the feat twice, Perry is the only musician to send a single to the top of the chart in six weeks or less in over eight years.  In 2005, it took Gwen Stefani’s  “Hollaback Girl” six weeks to make its way to the top of the Billboard Pop Songs, the last song to do so.

Thanks to the success of “Roar,” Perry now ties Rihanna for the most number one singles on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart – with 10 – in the chart’s 21-year history.  Pink follows closely behind with nine number one singles.
