Apple has announced that it is expanding its popular iTunes Festival to the US. The iTunes Festival has been held in London since 2007, but for the first time this year the music festival will be making an appearance in Austin, Texas at the annual South by Southwest (SXSW) music and film festival.
“The iTunes Festival in London has become an incredible way for Apple to share its love of music with our customers,” said top Apple executive Eddy Cue in an interview. “We’re excited about the incredible lineup of artists performing and SXSW is the perfect place to debut the first iTunes Festival in the US.”
While the London version is a 30-day event, the iTunes Festival at SXSW will take place over a five-day stretch (March 11-15) during the Austin City Limits Live event at Moody Theater. The event will feature performances from Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Pitbull, Keith Urban, Zedd and other iTunes chart toppers.
Apple’s iTunes Festival tickets will be given out to SXSW attendees for free by lottery.
