“Kanye is the new Madonna,” she tells the Daily News in an exclusive. “Kanye is the black Madonna.”
Word’s shocking except from the mouth of the long lived pop diva herself. The two have a fair bit in common not to mention collaborating for Madonna’s upcoming album Rebel Heart (most notobably on the track titled Illuminati) out tomorrow. Both have innovative careers also know for pushing the limits of what is acceptable in music performance. “We know, and recognize, that we have that in common,” she says. “We’re comrades in the envelope-pushing genre.”
Kanye has pushed the limits of his genre with atypical sounds and aesthetics for his latest album, Yeezus, the same album he titled as a play on the Christian messiah Jesus, while Madonna has also pushed the buttons of religion by performing while hanging from a cross, also like Jesus, during one of her concerts. Kanye and Madonna are both media icons that people love to hate. The two also share interview similarities where in 1994 Madonna appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and dropped a number of f-bombs while Kanye appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to defend himself (or rant) after Jimmy mocked him in a previous opening monologue sketch.
The two are definitely similar so it could be fair to say that Kanye is the new or black Madonna. Both have careers that have spanned not only decades and criticism with no apparent end in sight while expanding the boundaries of their music for future artists. “I’m opening doors for women behind me who one day won’t have to deal with this s*** that I deal with.” Kanye has long believed himself a voice of a generation paving a way for younger visionaries.
Kanye has released a number of singles including FourFiveSeconds, Only One, and All Day in preparation for the release of his upcoming album So Help Me God, co produced by Paul McCartney.
Madonna’s Rebel Heart, featuring production from Kanye West, drops Tuesday March 10th.
