James Durbin brought down the house more than once last season on American Idol with his hard rock attitude and heavy metal yowl. He didn’t win the contest but that’s actually a good thing as history has shown us because more Idol winners than not fade into anonymity and never sell more than a handful of albums. But Durbin has a shot of actually turning his Idol exposure into a career because it seems that he’s already found his place niche. On his debut effort “Memories of a Beautiful Disaster” the singer sticks to the big, hook filled arena rock that worked so well for him on the hit Fox show earlier this year and it’s also made Nickelback, and Seether a bunch of money!
Durbin was an instant fan favorite on Idol because of his amazing vocal range and endearing back story. He was also a natural on stage, his love for hard rock was unapologetic and contagious at the same time. I can’t really put my finger on it but there is something really likeable about this guy. Is he that special singer that comes around not that often? Maybe. Does he have what it takes to join the ranks of platinum selling, radio ready rockers? Definitely.
Daughtry- Break The Spell Album Cover
Fellow American Idol alum Chris Daughtry has also released his new album “Break The Spell”. The first single “Crawling Back To You” is signature Daughtry which means its all about the mid-tempo, slow burn ballad rock that has made him the seller of mucho albums. The new tracks have that super polished sound but they never reach the point of full blown cheese whiz. Chris and his band have this down to a science which means that your girlfriend is going to love it and her mom is going to want to come along with the two of you the next time the band plays a show in town.
