UPDATE(2:36pm): Billie Joe is out of the hospital and returned to Los Angeles Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, Billie told TMZ that his voice is completely gone. There is still no word as to what caused the hospitalization.
Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong was rushed to a hospital this past weekend, forcing the band to cancel their appearance at I-Festival in Bologna, Italy on Sunday.
Fellow bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool released a video statement on Youtube to apologize for the cancellation.
“We apologize profusely,” Dirnt said in a video statement. “Billy got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness. The doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for him to play today.”
“We’re beyond devastated,” Green Day drummer Tré Cool added. “We’re as sad as you guys are. Billie’s extremely upset about it, and we’ll see you very soon.”
Green Day’s next scheduled performance is at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas, NV on Sept. 21st. The group will release ¡Uno!, the first of trilogy of albums entitled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!, on Sept. 24th. The first single from the trilogy “Oh Love”‘ was released on July 16th and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s US Rock Songs chart.
¡Dos! and ¡Tré! will be released on November 13th and January 15, 2013, respectively.
