‘Frozen’ Soundtrack Tops Billboard 200, Ousts Beyonce

It was beginning to look like Queen Bey’s reign at the top of the Billboard 200 would be never-ending. Beyoncé’s self-titled album, which was released exclusively through Apple Inc.’s iTunes digital store on Dec. 13 and available to other retailers a week later on Dec. 21, was considered unstoppable after managing 991,000 copies sold in its first 10 days of release and rocketing up the Billboard 200 albums chart.  Beyoncé quickly grabbed the No. 1 position on the album chart, holding the top spot for three consecutive weeks, but this week the almighty album has been knocked down to No. 2.

The soundtrack to Disney’s latest film, Frozen, is the No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week. The soundtrack stormed up the Billboard 200 on Wednesday (Jan. 8), and with much surprise, bumping Beyoncé down to No. 2 in its fourth chart week, with 130,000 sold.

The Frozen soundtrack debuted at a lowly No. 18 on the charts, but has grown in sales every week since its debut. The soundtrack’s cumulative sales have now passed the half-million mark, as its additional 165,000 this week brings its total to 503,000 copies since its release in December. Frozen is currently the fourth-highest-grossing film released in 2013.
