Flavor Flav Faces Up to 12 Years in Prison

The legal problems for Public Enemy member Flavor Flav are far from over.

Flav, who’s real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., will stand trial in a Las Vegas courtroom for felony charges of assault with a weapon and child endangerment. The charges stem from a October 17, 2012 arrest when he allegedly attacked his girlfriend’s 17-year-old son with a butcher knife.

In addition to allegedly threatening the adolescent with a knife, the 54-year-old rapper is accused of throwing his girlfriend to the floor during the altercation in their Las Vegas home.

Drayton is expected to plead not guilty in the case.

These are not the first legal issues Flavor Flav has had. In 1991 he plead guilty to assaulting his then girlfriend Karen Ross and served 30 days in jail. Two years later he was charged with attempted murder after shooting at his neighbor and was imprisoned for 90 days. The rapper has also had numerous issues with substance abuse and warrants for various driving offenses.

If Flavor Flav is convicted of assault with a weapon and child endangerment, he could face up to 12 years in prison.
