Singer Elton John was hospitalized Wednesday for a serious respiratory infection. After checking into the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles doctors recommended that he not perform for seven days. The doctor told John to “complete rest and antibiotic treatment to prevent damage.” He has since cancelled all three shows for this weekend.
John is currently performing his residency show “Million Dollar Piano” in Las Vegas at The Colosseum in Caesar’s Palace. “Million Dollar Piano” opened in Vegas last September and will run at The Colosseum for the next three years.
“It feels strange not to be able to perform these ‘Million Dollar Piano’ concerts at The Colosseum. I love performing this show and will be thrilled when we return to The Colosseum in October to complete the eleven concerts soon to be scheduled,” the singer released in a statement on his website. “All I can say to the fans is ‘sorry I can’t be with you.”
Elton John is no newcomer to Las Vegas. In 2009 he ended a five year long stint at Caesars where he performed “The Red Piano Tour” 160 times.
