This morning Demi Lovato revealed the details of her new single “Made In The USA” just days after losing her estranged father Patrick Lovato. The cause of death for Lovato has not been released, but the “Heart Attack” singer’s father had been battling cancer for several years.
“Made In The USA.” is the second single off of Demi Lovato’s fourth studio album Demi. The song is expected to hit airwaves on Thursday and a music video is currently in the works. According to a press release, Lovato co-directed the music video and will feature guest appearances by surprise guests.
It does not appear that her father’s death will cause any changes to her promotional schedule, but the X-Factor judge did decide to take the weekend off from filming on the singing competition. Simon Cowell tweeted his condolences to his X-Factor counterpart by saying, “My thoughts are with you Demi.”
Demi Lovato always seemed to have a difficult relationship with her father. In a 2009 interview she revealed she hadn’t spoken to him in over two years at the time and had no plans to talk to him again.
“The last time I talked to him was two years ago,” she revealed. “You try to have faith in somebody, even when you’re the last person that believes in him. But when somebody lets you down after you’ve been the only one there for them, and so many times, you don’t know what else to do.”
At the time of his death, Patrick Lovato had not spoken to his daughter in over five years. In a 2011 interview he spoke of his difficult relationship with his daughter.
“My health isn’t what it used to be and I know my daughter loves her daddy, so please call me Demi. It is not like I want anything from her, all I want is her love. I’m so proud that she’s doing what she did, I knew the day she was born that she was special to me, but I didn’t know she would be so special to so many people.”
