One couple got a lucky surprise as they were on their way to a Dave Matthews concert this weekend. Emily Kraus and her boyfriend were driving to Hershey, PA to see Dave Matthews perform when they noticed a familiar looking hitchhiker on the side of the road. The hitchhiker ended up being Dave Matthews himself, who got stranded in the middle of nowhere after the tire on his bicycle went flat.
“I did not have a cell phone on the bicycle. So I thought, ‘Shit’,” Matthews ended up telling the crowd that night at Hersheypark Stadium. Luckily for Dave, Kraus and her boyfriend stopped to pick up their idol and gave him a lift to his own show. The couple was so surprised and starstruck, they didn’t even know what to say their favorite artist.
“So we didn’t know how to make conversation with him in fact, so we were talking about his tour and where he had come from. He had just been in Cincinnati and he said ‘I’m taking a short break after this one because I have to drop my daughters off at camp,’ and he was just a very humble guy,” Kraus told CBS 21.
Matthews was very thankful for the lift and offered the couple dinner backstage and a pair of front row seats to the show. Emily ended up declining the dinner, because she “felt out of place,” but took Dave up on the offer to hang out backstage and watch the show from the front row.
“I woke up this morning, and I rolled over and I said , ‘okay yeah that really happened yesterday,’” Emily recalls. “It was surreal we couldn’t believe it.”
