Chris Brown was kicked out of his court-ordered rehab program on Friday and is now locked up in a Los Angeles County jail. The 24-year-old singer had been in the Malibu-based program for nearly four months before getting the boot.
Brown, who is currently serving a five-year probation sentence for beating former girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, was reportedly “cooperative when taken into custody” and transferred to the Los Angeles County men’s central jail in downtown LA. Both Brown’s lawyer and a Los Angeles County probation official declined to comment on what prompted the singer’s arrest.
Brown was reportedly doing well in rehab and enjoying the second chance the program afforded him. “He remains thankful to the court for the opportunity to find out and learn more about himself, his anger issues and the type of person he wants to become, which is a man who is able to better himself and be a positive role model,” reads Brown’s February 26 rehab report.
Instead, whatever sparked the change, has resulted in Brown being held without bail through at least the weekend. On Monday his lawyer, Mark Geragos, will try to convince the judge to allow Brown to enter a new rehab treatment program or go on house arrest. If his request is denied, Brown may be jailed until his April 17th court date in Washington D.C for his misdemeanor assault charge.
If convicted of the assault charge, Brown could face serious prison time for violation of his probation.
