Britney Spears Biopic in the Works

A biopic about Britney Spears is currently in the works and is set to air on Lifetime.

Natasha Bassett, who appeared in Hail! Caesar earlier this year, is set to star as the “Oops!…I Did It Again” singer in the TV movie titled Britney.

The movie will follow the ups and downs of Spears’ career, beginning with her early life in Louisiana. It will also focus on her relationship with Justin Timberlake and her marriages to Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline, as well as her personal struggles, including losing custody of her sons.

Lifetime released the following synopsis:

Britney Jean Spears was just a young girl from Louisiana trying to make a name for herself in the music scene when her talent became undeniable to all those around her. While handlers soon began planning her every move, Britney found solace with fellow pop singer Justin Timberlake. Tragically, as Britney’s star continued to shine, her private life crumbled after the divorce of her parents and her tabloid breakup with Justin. Her personal behavior soon eclipsed her pop icon success as a quickie marriage to childhood friend and later, an ill-fated marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, became the talk of the world. With her life spiraling out of control, Britney hit rock bottom, lost custody of her sons and was placed under her father’s conservatorship. But despite her past troubles, Britney has battled back to rebuild her career to its former glory, proving to everyone that she’s a timeless force in entertainment.

Anne-Marie Hess will write the script, and Leslie Libman will direct. Production is set to begin in September in Vancouver. Britney will air on Lifetime in 2017.

Spears is currently busy promoting her ninth studio album Glory, which will be released this Friday. The Princess of Pop will appear on the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday and on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday for a Carpool Karaoke segment. Check out the preview below:
