Mike Todd, bassist for prog rockers Coheed and Cambria was arrested
yesterday for allegedly robbing a pharmacy prior to the band’s performance in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
According to Attleboro police, Todd walked into a Walgreens store and proceded to show the pharmacists a message on his cell phone that indicated he had a bomb.
He left the store with several bottles of oxycontin and fled in a taxi
cab. Several sources including the New York times are reporting that he was arrested by police at the Comcast Center in Mansfield where the band was scheduled to open for Soundgarden later that night.
Coheed and Cambria played the show without Todd last night and according to a post on the band’s Facebook page they will continue the tour with a fill in bassist and make a decision about Todd’s future with the group at a later time.
Many fans were posting on the page as well with words of encouragement for Todd and the band.
Mike Todd is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in an Attleboro Districk Court.
I interviewed Todd when Coheed and Cambria played Houston on the “Good
Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow” tour back in 2007. He had just rejoined the band after a fighting a very serious drug problem that almost ended his career and his life. At that time he was sober and glad to be back with the band that he helped establish as the kings of the new prog movement.
Unfortunately it seems that he has been unable t stay clean and has fallen back into the grasp of his old demons.
