BackstageOL Artist Spotlight: Stooshe

Have you ever wondered what would of happened if you put the vocal talents of Amy Winehouse, Adele and Beyonce together?  You would probably get something close to the British R&B girl group Stooshe.  Comprised of Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold, Stooshe has been making waves across the pond with their hit single “Black Heart”.

Stooshe was formed in May 2010 through a series of auditions lead by writer/manager Jo Perry.  The group’s name comes from the urban word “Stoosh” used to describe that something is expensive but can also be used to describe a girl who’s nicer thank she think she is.  Their first song “Love Me” was released on March 14, 2011 via Youtube.  Following mixed reviews, Paul Lester of The Guardian reported, “you can tell there’s a proper grown-up, soul-infused girl-pop group waiting to come out.”

The group’s latest single “Black Heart” climbed its way up to #3 on the U.K. charts,  becoming their second consecutive top 5 U.K. single.  The song has a sixties Mo-Town feel to it and is all about being in a relationship with a cheating lover.

“There was a guy I was with for about six years and he broke my heart. When he hears the song he’ll realise it’s about him. Like with Adele’s album, it’s obvious to that person. We were all thinking about exes during the performance as it was important it was heartfelt. Everyone’s been through a broken heart, so we can all relate to this song in particular,” Anderson told Daily Star.
