It was a HOT morning in Houston, Texas as the season 11 “American Idol” auditions rolled through town.
And, despite all the excitement that Ryan Seacrest was “in the house”, Ruben Dominguez and Dave Morales from BackstageOL.com STILL gave you the weekly “Backstage” look at what’s up in the music and entertainment world this week.
The music world lost two giants this past week. Nick Ashford of Ashford & Simpson lost his battle with throat cancer. The duo not only wrote hit songs for themselves, but also helped the careers of artists like Diana Ross and Ray Charles.
We also said goodbye to Jerry Leiber, one half of the songwriting duo of Leiber and Stoller. Leiber and Mike Stoller are responsible for such hit songs as “Hound Dog”, “Stand By Me” and “Jailhouse Rock.” It would almost take an entire book to list every tune they wrote together.
New music releases this week include the “Green Album” by a group of artists like The Fray and Weezer performing the greatest hits of the Muppets. Yes, THE Muppets. The band Ok Go, known for the video on a treadmill, sing the Muppets theme song.
Florence and the Machine announced their new album release, due in November. The band released a preview track called “What The Water Gave Me.” The song is AMAZING and if this is a preview of what is coming from Florence Welch and her “machine”, the entire album should be spectacular.
