Autopsy Results: Kris Kross Rapper Chris Kelly Died of Overdose

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta, GA has officially ruled the cause of death of hip-hop rapper Chris Kelly as a drug overdose.  Investigator Betty Honey said that a toxicology screening showed that Kelly had a combination of drugs in his system at the time of his death.

Kelly passed away on May 1st after paramedics found the rap star unresponsive on his living room couch in his Atlanta home.  Attempts to resuscitate him failed and he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

It has not been officially announced what drugs were found in his system during the toxicology screening.  A police report from the night of Kelly’s death does state that his mother told investigators that her son took a mixture of cocaine and heroin, known as a “speedball,” the night before he died.

Kelly is best known as a member of the group Kriss Kross, alongside Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith.  The group rose to prominence in 1992 when their track “Jump” became a chart-topper in the United States and around the world.
