Amazon to Launch Music Streaming Service

Amazon is reportedly planning to launch its own standalone music streaming subscription service, according to Reuters. The new service would be the online retailer’s way to compete with Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and Google Play.

Amazon wants to become a one-stop shop for digital entertainment media. The service will cost $9.99 per month, the same as Spotify and Apple, and will have a larger catalog of tunes than Amazon’s Prime Music, which has a limited amount of songs. Currently, Amazon is working to complete licensing deals with record labels.

The addition of a music streaming service may also encourage consumers to purchase the Amazon Echo, a voice-enabled home speaker which plays music, provides news, and more. The product’s success has even made Google want to develop its own speaker, and it’s expected to arrive later this year.

Amazon’s new music streaming service could launch as early as this summer or in the fall.
