ACL Weekend Two – Day Two: Drake Shows Us What We Already Know

Two artists proved they weren’t destined to be one hit wonders, and the other backed up the hype during Day two of ACL.

When people saw Twenty One Pilots on the MTV Video Music Awards stage people asked “why?”. Their music started to catch on and their live performances were something to behold than hear about. As a witness I can say this two piece brought their sporadic energy to the Honda stage, and made fans out of 15,000+ people.  Drummer Josh Dunn changed from a black mask to a green alien mask in the begging of the set. Vocalist Tyler Joseph gave fans his unhinged yet controlled stage presence, while singing and jumping from stage to the top of his piano. Songs like ” Car Radio”, “Stressed Out”, and “Ride” brought something different yet welcoming.

“Shut up and Dance” has probably been played so many times on your daily commute, but there’s no denying the tune is infectious! Once Walk The Moon played their hit single, everyone from kid, adult, and college frat boy just…well danced. WTM only have one hit on the radio currently, but watching their live set should give new fans a reason to buy their album TALKING IS HARD. Also, they opened up to The Lion King’s – “Circle of Life.” Its hard not root for these guys after that.

Lastly, Drake. You know what to expect from the Toronto rapper. The set list will include several of his hits, including his collaboration with Future, and ALL of his rap ballad’s. For people who are just tired of hearing about Drake, this performance is not for you. With that being said, those people are in the minority. People pilled on hours before to see the final set of the night. Songs included ” Started From The Bottom”, and “Headlines.” The set also included snippets of his featured songs like “My Way” and “Blessings.” The true treat was when Drake brought rapper J Cole on to the stage. The hip-hop heads in the crowd went nuts. The only way I can describe Drake’s performance is by quoting the man; “It is what it is. Trust me, you get what you give.”

It was a great way to close off the night, and a perfect way to end Drake’s 2015 tour at ACL.
