Weekend One of the Austin City Limits Festival seemed like the bigger draw for true music fans. Acts like The Strokes, Alabama Shakes, and Brandon Flowers brought a much better line-up than Weekend Two. Regardless of the fact, the festival is back once again with several fans excited to see whats in store.
The surging rap group Run the Jewels stated that “this was a bigger crowd than last week.” During their set El-P and Killer Mike went through hits of their self titled album and their latest Run the Jewels 2. It was a true treat see Texas native Bun B take the stage as RTJ paid tribute to the late Pimp C with their song “A Christmas F****** Miracle.” It was a great set all around for the group who basically had to open up for Future on the opposite stage.
Several fans crowded to see Future perform hits off of DS2, What a Time to Be Alive, and Pluto. While it wasn’t one of the best performances of the festival, it was fun to see a huge crowd let loose, swag out, and “drip sauce” during “Same Damn Time.”
But the true act of the night has to go to the Foo Fighters. Even with a broken leg, Dave Grohl proves time and time again that he is deserving of legendary status. The band started off with “All My Life” and it never slowed down as Grohl and the rest of his band mates proved to Austin,TX that rock n roll still lives on. While Dave is already a member of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Nirvana, the remaining members of the Foo Fighters shouldn’t be ignored. The group has consistently adapted to the times to release singles each or every other year. Kudos to them for their incendiary performance! Don’t be surprised if the band gets nominated to hall of fame status sometime soon.
Also, note if you haven’t heard of George Ezra yet you will very soon. He brought a cool, calm, and collected tone to today’s fest and has made many wonder what else he has in store in the near future.
Day two brings an even more intriguing set of artists as Echosmith, Twenty One Pilots, and Drake take the stage on Saturday.
Till tomorrow!
