Davidson County Sheriff’s officials have charged Robert Todd Harrell, founding member and bassist for rock band 3 Doors Down, with vehicular homicide. Police claim Harrell was speeding in his car on Friday night near Nashville when he hit a truck, sending the vehicle down an embankment and killing the driver.
According to police, Harrell showed signs of impairment and admitted he had consumed hard cider and taken prescription drugs Lortab and Xanax. During a search inside the Davidson County Sheriff’s booking room, police found 8 Xanax pills, 24 oxycodone pills and 4 oxymorphone pills inside the bassist’s socks. In addition to the charge of vehicular homicide, Harrell has been charged with bringing a controlled substance into a jail and is currently being held on a $100,000 bail.
The driver of the pickup in the crash, Paul Howard Shoulders, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to police. Shoulders was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr.,” Three Doors Down released in a statement on their website. “Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
