2016 TIFF: Pharrell Williams Performs ‘Hidden Figures’ Concert
At the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, singer Pharrell Williams graced the stage to perform a special concert for those that attended the sneak peak of 20th Century Fox’s Hidden Figures.
Williams – who is also a producer on the film – was joined with singers Kim Burrell and Lalah Hathaway to sing original songs from the film’s soundtrack, all accompanied by a full band, choir and back-up singers.
In a clip for the film, Williams said, “It’s a story about these women in the 1960s who changed NASA. They were instrumental in winning the space race to the moon. I’m honored to be a producer, but this is important. I have to be a part of this.”
Hidden Figures stars Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe and Taraji P. Henson. It tells the true story of a team of brilliant African-American women who were the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history.
Following the concert, Williams shared a photo of him with the actors and his fellow performers on Twitter writing, “Surrounded by greatness.”
