Singers Joe Jonas and Rachel Platten were on hand on Good Morning America to announce the nominees for the 2016 American Music Awards Monday.
Drake broke the record for most nominations for the awards show with a total of thirteen, beating out previous record-holder Michael Jackson, who had eleven nominations back in 1984. Drake’s nominations include Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Album, and Favorite Rap Artist. The “Hotline Bling” rapper has never won an American Music Award.
Rihanna came in second for the most nominations this year with seven, followed by Adele and Justin Bieber with five nominations each.
Drake, Rihanna, Adele, Bieber, Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood and The Weeknd will all face off for Artist of the Year. The ten nominees will be narrowed down to five on Monday, November 14 based on the amount of votes received online by 8:59 a.m. PT that day.
Voting for the award show is open now. The 2016 American Music Awards will air live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20th at 7pm CST.
