World of Warcraft fans listen up! Your prayers have been answered. Blizzard Entertainment is in pre-production with Legendary Pictures right now to bring the most popular MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game for you non-gamers), World of Warcraft, to the big screen.
While Duncan Jones (Moon/Source Code) was locked-in as the film’s director earlier this year, producer Charles Roven revealed on Monday that Warcraft is currently planned to begin filming in early 2014. “First quarter 2014 we’re going to shoot that movie,” Roven told Slashfilm.com. “We’re moving forward; obviously Legendary is making that film and I’m having a great time with Duncan.”
Although none of the details about the film have been revealed, expect plenty of battles with both humans and orcs. Since filming will begin in early 2014, the first footage of the film could be released as soon as next summer, possibly in time for Comic Con. If production runs smoothly, expect a release date sometime in 2015.
Released in 2004, World of Warcraft has been certified by Guinness Book of World Records as the most played MMORPG in the world, with over 8 million subscribers.
