The Avengers and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. wants Marvel to consider casting Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster in the upcoming Avengers sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Although RDJ would like the duo added to the cast, sources say Marvel may not consider casting Gibson in any future Avengers films due to his infamous DUI arrest in 2006 and his anti-Semitic rants.
If anyone knows how to make a comback, that man is Robert Downey Jr. He made a successful return to the movie industry after battling substance abuse for many years, a condition that had previously ruined his career. Now sources say Robert wants to reach out and help his Oscar winning buddies by landing them roles in future blockbuster films.
“He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe,” an unnamed source told Radar Online. “It’s been a longtime dream of Robert’s to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he’s achieved in recent years.”
If Marvel approves the roles, sources predict that Gibson may play the the villain Thanos while Foster could play his mistress, Death.
No official or additional casting for The Avengers: Age of Ultron has been confirmed by Marvel. The film is planned for a 2015 release.
