Charlie Hunnam dropped out of his role as Christian Grey in the 50 Shades of Grey movie adaptation over the past weekend, claiming his filming schedule for Sons of Anarchy would keep him from fully preparing for the role.
Since Hunnam dropped out, there must be a replacement for Christian Grey. Universal Pictures and Focus Features said in a joint statement obtained by E! News, “the filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
The “Fifty Shades” author E.L. James told E! News last month that his “first choice” for Christian Grey was Robert Pattinson, best known for his role as Edward Cullen from Twilight. Other actors who have been considered for the film include Matt Bomer (White Collar), Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries), Ryan Gosling (Drive), Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood).
