The Theory of Everything star Eddie Redmayne stopped by The Graham Norton Show earlier this week where he was questioned why he wasn’t in any of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.
“Every English actor in the world was in it. What gives, Eddie Redmayne?” asked Norton in the clip.
Redmayne recounted how he approached for the role of Bilbo Baggins when he received an audition. He explained he was “really rigorous” about researching the character, and then commenced to reenact his disastrous audition by scrunching up his body, making creepy hand gestures and speaking in a very odd voice.
“I thought I was being brave,” said Redmayne. “I never got a callback.”
Anna Kendrick, who was a guest on the show as well, praised his decision on telling the story. “You always hear the stories of the actor being brave, and really doing something kind of mad to get a part,” said Kendrick. “And you’re like, ‘I’m going to do that!’”
