The war has begun.
When we saw Caesar the Ape at the end of 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, he was standing before a mass of apes awaiting for the human military to attack. On July 14, 2017, dawn turns to war with the arrival of War for the Planet of the Apes, the third installment in the relaunched Planet of the Apes franchise that began in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes starring James Franco.
To generate buzz for the forthcoming release, 20th Century Fox is using the New York Comic Con as its platform. A 45-second billboard trailer has been revealed and features Caesar and audio from the previous entry as he warns about the war before disappearing as a flurry of snow cascades across the screen.
In the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar (voice and motion capture of Andy Serkis) and his apes (including Steve Zahn and Judy Greer) are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
