An all-new trailer for Will Gluck’s modern-day spin on the 1977 original musical Annie was released on Thursday. The film will include stars Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhane Wallis, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, David Zayas and Cameron Diaz.
Oscar winner Jamie Foxx will play the role of Benjamin “Will” Stacks (‘Daddy Warbucks’), a wealthy businessman and mayoral candidate who encounters a young orphan, Annie, played by Quvenzhane Wallis. Foxx saves the happy foster kid from getting hit by a van “like Batman” and finds that she will be a helpful tool in his campaign strategy.
Cameron Diaz will portray the cruel Orphan patron Miss Hannigan.
The newly released trailer features less musical numbers and dance routines than the prior one, and focuses more on the witticisms and the relationships between characters instead.
Will Gluck directed and co-wrote the script with Aline Brosh McKenna and Emma Thompson. Gluck also produced Annie along with Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter, Shawn “JAY Z” Carter, Laurence “Jay” Brown, Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith, and Caleeb Pinkett.
The Columbia Pictures remake will open in theaters December 19th.
