‘Triple Frontier’ Drama Could Be Netflix’s Next Big Movie

Usually when a project gets postponed a few weeks away from starting production the likelihood of the film being shelved indefinitely is high. That looked to be the case for Triple Frontier, a thriller written by Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty), to be directed by J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, A Most Violent Year), and star Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy. With the news of Paramount dropping out of finance and distribution, the project lost Tatum and Hardy. The only major cast member left aboard was Mahershala Ali, who picked up a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award this year for his performance in Moonlight.

Well, Deadline reports that Triple Frontier may be a go after all as conversations have been ongoing with viable studio suitors. The most interesting and promising is Netflix. Should the streaming outlet board the lead roles would be offered to Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck. If this were to occur, the production would “formally extricate from Paramount and start production later in the year.”

Mark Boal’s script has circled the likes of director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, upcoming Detroit) and stars Tom Hanks, Will Smith, and Johnny Depp in the past, before Chandor, Tatum and Hardy boarded. The thriller is set in the notorious border zone with Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge.

With Scott Stuber as the new incoming features head at Netflix this would be a huge acquisition if everything can be ironed out.
