The teaser trailer released on Wednesday has shocked the Internet as it seems the movie is not based on the living toy Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, but instead the human astronaut whose space missions inspired the line of Buzz Lightyear toys bought by Andy.
In the trailer, astronaut Buzz Lightyear embarks on a one-man rocket ship and blasts off into space, where he visits foreign planets, makes robot friends, and faces alien threats. In the end, the character speaks for the first and only time, saying part of his iconic line “To infinity and…[beyond],” leaving all watching fans bubbling with nostalgia.
Pixar’s 26th animated film Lightyear will hit the theaters on July 17, 2022.
Chris Evans reacts to playing Buzz Lightyear
Animated movie were an enormous part of my childhood. They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams.
They were my first window into the magic of storytelling and performing.
