Tom Hardy In Negotiations to Play Kray Twins in ‘Legend’

Actor Tom Hardy is currently in talks to take on the lead role of twin gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray in the upcoming film Legend. The film, based on a true story, will depict the lives of the Kray twins who were notorious for being involved with organized crime throughout the 1950s and 1960s in London.

Legend is set to be written and directed by Brian Helgeland, who previously won an Academy Award for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) for L.A. Confidential in 1997. Helgeland stated last year at a Writer’s Guild of America event that Legend will focus more on Reggie as he deals with his psychotic twin sibling. The film is expected to begin shooting in London later this year.

This will be the second time the Kray brothers’ story will be adapted for the silver screen. In 1990, Martin and Gary Kemp starred in a film adaptation entitled The Krays.

Hardy already has multiple film roles on his plate. He will be starring in Soviet thriller Child 44 and crime drama The Drop this year. He will also be seen in Warner Bros.’ upcoming action-adventure film Mad Max: Fury Road, as well as in the title role of Elton John’s biopic Rocketman, which is set to begin shooting later this year.
