The “Game of Thrones” star and Oscar-nominated icon (12 Years a Slave) will lead the flick as a couple trying to start a family in an innovative way. The story set in the near future follows Rachel (Clarke) and Alvy (Ejifor), a New York couple utilizing new tools to start a family. Rachel’s work offers couples the opportunity to share pregnancy on an equal median via detachable wombs (pods). These pods are advanced technology developed by tech giant, Pegasus. After Consequently, the couple decided they will take the leap into this new world.
Barthes’ and MK2 Films’ Statement
Director Barthes shared her excitement regarding the project: “Working with Emilia and Chiwetel as a couple on screen is a dream come true,” she said. “Emilia’s versatility, her disarming sense of humor and capacity to navigate complex emotions are a perfect match to Chiwetel’s charisma and extraordinary screen presence.”

Barthes added that the “idea of the artificial womb as either doom or liberation for women is inherently comedic material.”
Moreover, MK2 Films will supervise international sales. Meanwhile CAA Media Finance will handle domestic rights. Fionnuala Jamison, managing director of MK2 Films described the film as a “captivating near-future story with a distinctly feminine twist that really haunts as much as it entertains.” She also noted that “it’s raising ethical questions about where technology is taking us. Like once the womb has been commodified, what’s next?”

Furthermore, MK2 Films has planned to tease the project at the virtual American Film Market next week. The script and sizzle reel will be shared at this event as well.
The Pod Generation is being produced by Yann Zenou at Paris-based Quad. Alongside Geneviève Lemal for scope. Clarke will also executive produce the film. In addition, the project will feature cinematographer Andrij Parekh and production designer Shane Valentino.
