‘The Flintstones’ Returning to the Big Screen

Warner Brother Studios is bringing back The Flintstones, this time as a full-length animated feature based on the iconic TV series.

The studio has hired Chris Henchy to compose a script for the project, as well as Will Ferrell and Adam McKay to produces the animated feature with Gary Sanchez productions.

The animated show was set in the Stone Age and followed the lives of Fred, who worked in a quarry and enjoyed barbecuing brontosaurus burger, his wife Wilma, Fred’s best friend Barney Rubble along with his wife Betty.

The Flintstones ran for six seasons, setting the record for a primetime animated series that would not be beat for nearly 30 years till it was overtaken by The Simpsons. The franchise had previously brought the iconic family back to the big screen in a live action film in 1994, which stared John Gooman, Elizabeth Perkins, Rick Moranis and Rosie O’Donnell followed by a sequel in 2000, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

While a release date has yet to be announced, Warner Brothers did put two placeholders on their release calendar for unspecified animated projects, the first arriving February 10, 2017 and the second February 9, 2018.
