Warner Bros. and New Line have set a release date for their The Conjuring spinoff titled Annabelle for October 3rd of this year.
The film will not be a sequel or a prequel, but will rather center exclusively on the haunted doll seen in the home museum of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Additional plot details remain unknown.
Peter Safran and Conjuring director James Wan will be producing the horror spinoff, along with Gary Dauberman as screenwriter and John R. Leonetti as director.
Leading Annabelle’s cast are Annabelle Wallis (The Tudors), Ward Horton (The Wolf of Wallstreet), Brian Howe (Justified), and Alfre Woodard (True Blood).
Last year’s The Conjuring, budgeted at only $20 million, went on to become the most profitable films of 2013, grossing over $300 million worldwide.
The studios want to continue the franchise’s success by creating the spinoff based on the evil doll. Stars Wilson and Farmiga will not be appearing in Annabelle, but will return to reprise their roles in The Conjuring 2. The sequel will be released next fall on October 23rd, 2015.
Annabelle will debut later this year against Fox’s David Fincher mystery Gone Girl. Are you excited to watch the horror spinoff this Halloween?
