Star Wars Plan to Release Film Every Summer Beginning in 2015

Walt Disney Company chairman Alan Horn announced on Wednesday that the studio has plans to release a new Star Wars film every summer beginning in 2015. The new chapter of Star Wars films will begin with the 2015 release of the J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars: Episode VII.

The studio announced plans to release Star Wars sequels every other year after Episode VII is released. Therefore, we can expect Episode VIII to be released in 2017, Episode IX in 2019, Episode X in 2021, and so on.

On alternate years Disney will release spin-off films based on the Star Wars universe. Could Chewbacca, Jabba the Hutt, or Yoda get their own films? These films will be released in 2016, 2018, 2020, etc.

Disney made plans to reboot the Star Wars franchise after purchasing Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion last October.
