Sony Pictures Animation revealed on Monday a slate of movies set to release in 2017 through 2018, one of them including a film based on emojis.
With today’s society largely entranced with technology and the beloved characters that describe one’s every emotion, it was only time for a film to be released solely based on these yellow faces. The Emojimovie: Express Yourself, directed by Anthony Leondis and produced by Michelle Raimo, will follow the secret lives of various emojis. The film is still in early productions and is targeting an August 2017 release.
Kristine Belson, President of Sony Pictures Animation, said in a statement, “We are meaningfully stepping up our level of production, while creating an environment that fosters the best talent. Our goal is to enlarge our presence in the animation landscape with a uniquely diverse slate, and our strategy to get there is to let artists drive the movies creatively.”
Along with Emojimovie: Express Yourself, Sony Pictures Animation’s other theatrical releases for the next two years include: Smurfs: The Lost Village, The Star, Hotel Transylvania 3, and the upcoming animated Spider-Man movie.
