Sony Announces New Spider-Man Movie Every Year
Co-chairman of Sony Pictures Amy Pascal has confirmed that Sony plans to release a new Spider-Man movie every year.
During an interview with Variety Pascal revealed, “We are expanding the Spider-Man universe into The Sinister Six and Venom, so that we have a Spider-Man movie every year.”
In December 2013, Sony announced that Alex Kurtzman will be directing Venom based on a script he and longtime collaborator Roberto Orci and Ed Solomon have been writing. As for The Sinister Six, Drew Goddard will be writing the screenplay as well as possibility directing the film.
Both films are still in studio development and have yet to be dated.
Along with The Sinister Six and Venom, Sony Pictures plans to continue The Amazing Spider-Man series with Andrew Garfield by releasing the Marc Webb-directed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on May 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in June 2016.
The Amazing Spider-Man grossed $752 million worldwide in 2012 and became Sony’s most profitable film.
