Sam Worthington, who played Jake Sully in 2009’s Avatar, has revealed that filming for Avatar 2 will begin next October.
Worthington broke the news during an interview with Australian radio station Nova 96.9. He says that most of the script has been written by director James Cameron and that the crew plan to film Avatar 3 and Avatar 4 immediately after.
“We are going to start this time next year and we will do two, three and four, in one shot, we’ll do them simultaneously,” Worthington told the Australian radio station. “I’ll be grateful if it finishes.”
Fox recently announced there would be three more sequels, instead of two, to the Avatar franchise. To help with the extra work, director James Cameron hired additional screenwriters to help finish the screenplays for the upcoming sequels.
Avatar 2 is due in theaters December 2016. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver are all expected to reprise their roles in the sequels.
