Sam Mendes will continue to be a part of the 007 franchise. On Thursday it was confirmed that the director will be returning to direct the 24th James Bond film. Mendes directed the successful James Bond movie Skyfall which made over $1.1 billion worldwide.
A few months ago, Mendes stated he would not be directing the next Bond film due to other commitments. He recently adapted Charlie & the Chocolate Factory into a theater production in London and is getting ready to do King Lear for the National Theatre. However, these other conflicts have worked out to allow Mendes to direct the film.
“I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honor all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24,” Mendes said in Thursday’s statement. “I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time.”
The new James Bond film is expected to hit theaters November 6, 2015. Daniel Craig will return as James Bond, and Skyfall writer John Logan will write the script.
