Robert Downey Jr. Says No to ‘Iron Man 4’
While promoting his new film, The Judge, at the Toronto Film Festival, Robert Downey Jr. revealed that there are no plans for Marvel’s Iron Man to return for a fourth installment.
In an interview with Variety, the 49-year-old actor said, “There isn’t one in the pipe… No, there’s no plans for a fourth Iron Man.”
When asked about the idea of “letting” someone else take on the role for a potential superhero sequel, Downey Jr. joked, “I like that the idea is that it would be to me, like I’m casting director for Marvel.”
The actor, however, will appear as billionaire superhero Tony Stark in upcoming sequels of the Avengers.
Downey has signed with Marvel and Disney for two The Avengers sequels, with the first, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, set for a May 1, 2015 release, and the other, Avengers 3, to release in 2018.
His upcoming film, The Judge, directed by David Dobkin, is scheduled to debut on October 10th. It centers on a big city lawyer who returns to his childhood home where his father, the town’s judge, (played by Robert Duvall) is suspected of murder.
