Iron Man himself has just admitted that this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy is the best Marvel film yet.
Robert Downey Jr. shared his opinion on the film during an interview with the Toronto Sun this week.
“Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever,” RDJ told the newspaper. “And it’s odd for someone with — on occasion — an ego the size of mine to actually say that!”
The motivating factor behind RDJ’s opinion was the ability for Marvel to take a group of relatively unknown characters from the Marvel Universe and develop an extremely successful film.
“We’re talking about how the Iron Mans and the Thors and the Captain Americas and the Avengers movies have afforded Marvel the opportunity to essentially take what was a third-tier, minor, kind of upstart bit of potential from one of their comic books series and say: ‘Look!’”
RDJ added, “It’s like you have a great quarterback, and his brother plays for another team, and then you say: ‘Look, this is their second cousin and we think he has a great arm and he should start.’ And then he goes and wins the Superbowl!”
You can see Robert Downey Jr. in the upcoming drama The Judge, in theaters October 10th, before starring in Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron next summer.
