Ridley Scott Finishes Script for ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel
Yes, it really does seem to be happening! Ridley Scott has just finished the script for a Blade Runner sequel and he’s calling it “damn good.” The best part is that Harrison Ford will be involved in the project.
Scott’s iconic 1982 Blade Runner starred Harrison Ford as Deckard, a man hired to hunt down and terminate rogue artificial humans called “replicants”. The new script was written by Scott and co-written by Hampton Fancher (who worked on the original film) and Michael Green (Green Lantern/Gotham).
“It’s written and it’s damn good,” Scott told website DenofGeek.com before mentioning Harrison Ford (now 72) will be part of the project despite his recent injury on the set of Star Wars VII. Sadly, Scott wasn’t willing to leak any of the film’s plot details or even a possible release date.
The three-time Academy Award nominated director has a ton on his plate right now so it’s very possible the script could be shelved for some time. He has plans to produce a sequel to Prometheus (a script has already been written) and is set to direct Matt Damon in The Martian. In addition, he has to finish putting the final touches on the biblical epic Exodus: Gods & Kings (based on the story of Moses) which is due in theaters in December.
“I’ve got a lot of ducks in a row,” Scott admits. “One of those ducks also includes another biblical epic, this one about the Goliath-slaying exploits of King David.”
Therefore, it’s sufficient to say that it may not be until the later part of the 2010s before production on Blade Runner begins.
