Disclaimer: I was a HUGE fan of the original “American Pie” movies. And by originals, I mean the first two in the series. I cut it off at “American Wedding” and really wasn’t even aware of the straight to DVD chapters.
When it was announced there would be a “Reunion” one made, I was reluctant to get back in a relationship with a movie series that fell limp. After seeing “Reunion”, I can happily say we “dating” again- and in a big way.
“Reunion” is silly. “Reunion” is not a date night movie. “Reunion” is a total “guys flick.” That’s why we are back together.
The original crew returns for their high school reunion. As at most reunions, some attendees are married, some are in lifeless marriages and some are longing to once again act like a 17-year old high school senior.
It’s the classic “I don’t want to grow up” syndrome us guys go through every now and then.
This “last hoorah” is what we see in “American Reunion” and it involves everything you would expect from Jim, Oz, Stifler, Finch and Kevin.
My favorite character to see on the big screen again? Stifler (Sean William Scott) and he plays the role PERFECTLY. Second favorite? Eugene Levy returning as Noah Levenstein (Jim’s dad). Sure, we saw a lot of Jim’s dad in the forgettable sequels, but none of those portrayals come close to what he delivers in this one. Stick around after the movie ends for a hilarious scene albeit extremely juvenile.
If you want a nostalgic fun ride back in time to the original “Pie” movies, this one is for you. This is exactly what I was hoping for and it delivered.
If the producers decide to release another round of the “straight to video” “Pie” movies again, we are breaking up (again).
