Sony Pictures’ upcoming Goosebumps movie, based off of the popular 1990s young-adult series, has released its first trailer!
The clip gives us a look at Jack Black portraying the well-known children’s horror writer, R.L. Stine. A new neighbor, hoping to win the heart of Stine’s daughter, accidentally unleashes the author’s imaginary demons when unlocking the series’ original manuscripts.
“You’ve just released every monster I’ve ever created,” Black says once the supernatural books are opened.
It is up to the trio to save the town of Greendale, Maryland from monsters like the Abominable Snowman, killer garden gnomes, evil clowns and so much more.
Below is the film’s official movie synopsis:
Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.
The trailer debuted on Wednesday on Good Morning America, in which Black announced his excitement for the upcoming film.
“The movie turned out dynamite; I’m so excited,” he said. “The books are really funny and scary and exciting, and we just wanted the movie to be as awesome and cool as the book series was, and I think we cracked the code.”
Directed by Rob Letterman, Goosebumps is scheduled to release on October 16th.
